Implementing the high-performance Fox Beast (H3 Plus) solar power system is the ultimate solution for modern farming. Faced with rising energy costs and the unpredictability of the South African power grid, the owners turned to Greyton Electrical. They needed a design that would secure their agricultural future and ensure operational continuity.
The Challenge: Protecting Apple Crops with 24/7 Irrigation
The primary objective for this project was twofold. First, the farmer needed to significantly reduce a substantial yearly Eskom account. Second, the system had to ensure that water pumps remain operational regardless of grid status. For an apple farm, consistent irrigation is non-negotiable. Consequently, this installation ensures that even during load shedding, the pumps continue to run. This provides the 24/7 irrigation required to protect the apple crops.
Technical Excellence: Unleashing The ‘BEAST’
To meet these heavy-duty requirements, Greyton Electrical designed a massive solar array and storage solution built for maximum performance. The Fox Beast (H3 Plus) solar power system features high-capacity components, including:
- Solar Panels: 600 ground-mounted panels, each producing 610W.
- Inverters: Three three-phase 125kW H3 Plus Fox ESS inverters—powerhouses that we have nicknamed The ‘Beast’.
- Battery Storage: Sixty 16kW Fox lithium batteries (CQ16), creating an enormous total battery capacity of 960kW.
Financial Success and Operational Continuity
The outcome of installing The ‘BEAST’ (Fox ESS H3 Plus) has been incredible for the client. One of the most significant benefits is the ability to “bank” unused electricity generated during the winter months for later use.
Furthermore, the system allows the farm to completely avoid using power during expensive peak time-of-use slots, such as those found in the Ruraflex tariff. These peak rates can be eight times more expensive than standard electricity costs. By avoiding these high-cost periods and eliminating the threat of load shedding, Oewerzicht farm has achieved a positive cash flow from the very first day of operation
