Team M Solar Power at work installing a solar panel power system Paarl.
We are proud to be supporting another client’s operating cost reduction and environmental initiatives by installing 385W Glass on Glass Bifacial Solar Panels in Paarl just outside of Cape Town, South Africa.
Glass-glass solar panels are the newest type of solar panels, which do not degrade in the same way as conventional (glass-foil) solar panels do. A glass-glass solar panel is the most stable solar panel with no potential-induced degradation and the longest available solar panel power lifespan.
Traditional plastic bask sheet solar power panels
A traditional solar power panel consists of a glass front sheet, with the solar cells behind it and a plastic laminated back sheet or foil on the back or underneath. This type of solar panel is particularly vulnerable when exposed for years to sunlight, damp, temperature differences and mechanical stresses. Panels with a plastic laminated back sheet allow dirt and damp to enter more easily. Resulting in a slight lower solar panel power output each year because of this. Most manufacturers guarantee the performance of their solar panels will stay above 90% for the first ten years and will be at 80% after 20 to 25 years.

Glass on glass solar panels produce more power, last longer and are stronger
Glass is extremely stable and totally impenetrable, as a result, it is totally damp proof. Damp and oxygen cannot enter, so the solar cell aging process hardly occurs.
Glass does not burn. In contrast to a plastic back sheet solar power panels, which fuels a fire, glass of aglass on glass module does not burn.
The plastic back sheet solar power panel decays more readily, discoluoring, bubbling and eventually cracks over time.
The use of glass enables the solar panels to withstand external mechanical influences: stresses which occur during transport or walking on the roof as well as extreme weather conditions such as hail. Because they are “embedded” between glass, the cells do not tear under high stress, the cells are not damaged and there is no loss of power output as a result of damaged cells.
Besides boasting the advantages of glass-glass, JA Solar Glass on Glass modules user PERC Mono Cell Bifacial cells that produce more power per square meter than traditional panels and they require less bill of materials to mount provide the lowest available levelized cost of energy.
